4 ideas to leverage BeReal, the new “authenticity app”, for your company.

In case you haven’t heard of BeReal yet:

BeReal is the new social media app designed to reintroduce spontaneous, authentic social sharing.

This is a mission I can get behind.

The app sends you a message once a day at random times requesting you to post a photo within 2 minutes. The app is designed such that it creates a photo with the front and back camera at the same time.

Only after sharing that photo(s) with your group of friends, do you see theirs.

It’s still a little clunky, but the vision is clearly there: cut out as much posing, propping, and faking.

The app holds true to its name: share what you’re actually doing, just be real.

In a world that seems to inhabit more and more critical voices from Gen Z employees and Millennials with burnouts from stress and lack of financial freedom, I feel like there’s an opportunity for employers and startups looking to separate themselves:

Is it possible to leverage this app to show how unique and “real” you are?

I guess only if you truly are.

My ideas around leveraging this app all revolve around the premise that your company actually does stand out.

If such is the case, I feel that the design of this app could highly benefit your strategy in multiple areas:

  • Hiring: Daily external sharing to increase transparency for new hires and candidates about what it’s like to work at your company
  • Internal Comms: Share internally to boost team cohesion and bond with colleagues working remotely
  • Marketing: Direct your leads to BeReal and give a taste of what’s on “the other side”
  • Sales: For extended sales cycles and event-based sales, adding an authentic, spontaneous element for those not present

I’ve already read a post here and there warning about the potential NSFW risks and threats to company secrets that might get exposed.

Personally, I think that’s underestimating the intelligence of your workforce and anticipating a lack of trust in respecting the company’s privacy. But I might be wrong.

Curious to hear your thoughts.
